Prince’s Foundation Summer School

This coming week, I will be off to the UK to spend three weeks with the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community. As part of the partnership between SFU Urban Studies, the foundation, and generous donors who are making the trip possible, I will be joining architects, developers, builders, and craftspeople in the summer school program learning about sustainable building materials and ways to preserve historic places in the 21st century. We will be traveling between London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow ending with a week long design charrette with the local community to decide on a new summer house at the historic Dumfries House in Scotland. The winning design will be implemented in the fall by student craftsmen.

I still do not know entirely what to expect, but I am going into the program with few expectations other than to explore a new culture and gain experience working hands on with an unfamiliar community. Expect an update when I return, if not a couple here and there in the coming weeks!

  1. Congratulations on being a part of this Landon! My summer school experience with the Prince’s Foundation is one my most memorable and rewarding experiences.

I look forward to reading more about your trip on here!

  2. of course like your web site but you have to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very troublesome to tell the truth nevertheless I’ll surely come back again.
